We need more… 2
Since that beer with my cousin Rob in November, Escape the City has grown and grown. After its official launch party in January and the launch of the complete site in March, Esc has received a barrage of press coverage including most recently an article in the Evening Standard.
I think this all works as further proof that balls, cockiness and ambition all go firmly hand in hand.
We need more…

We went to have a beer with my cousin, Rob Symington, half the brains behind Escape the City, a new venture born out of the frustration and boredom that so many over-qualified twenty-somethings feel every morning as they take up their position at their desk amongst the graduate trainees in the City. Intelligent? Yes. Idealistic? Yes. Ambitious? Yes. Fulfilled? No.
Escape the City is providing a platform for the unfulfilled to vent their frustration… and find more meaningful employment.
Rob’s enthusiasm for this venture is impressive and infectious. Regardless of how big and ambitious his plans sound, he speaks about them with clarity and confidence, and as the listener you can help but believe that he will achieve them all… and some.
Starting up a new business is an emotional roller-coaster. Try setting up something you really care about, and the emotional highs and lows are violent and sudden. But if you have confidence in the idea, and can communicate that to others, then success must be at the end of the big dipper.
As Amy and I walked away from Rob’s we decided that we need more, not less, cockiness, confidence, balls and ambition.
